Saudi Consumer Prices Fall the Least in 10 Months
Saudi Arabia's consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent year-on-year in October of 2019, following a 0.7 percent decline in the previous month. It was the tenth consecutive month of deflation, although cost fell at a softer pace for housing & utilities (-4.2 percent vs -5.6 percent in September) and communication (-0.5 percent vs -0.4 percent). In addition, prices advanced faster for furniture & household equipment (1.9 percent vs 1.3 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (2.8 percent vs 2.5 percent) and restaurants & hotels (2.0 percent vs 1.9 percent) while clothing & footwear cost dropped at a softer pace (-0.8 percent vs -1.2 percent). In contrast, food & non-alcoholic beverages inflation was steady (at 1.2 percent) while transport cost rose less (1.0 percent vs 1.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.2 percent, the same as in the previous month.

Saudi Arabia's consumer prices dropped 0.7 percent year-on-year in September of 2019, following a 1.1 percent decline in the previous month. It was the ninth consecutive month of deflation, although cost fell at a softer pace for housing & utilities (-5.6 percent vs -6.5 percent in August) and communication (-0.4 percent vs -0.8 percent). In addition, prices advanced faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.2 percent vs 1.0 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (2.5 percent vs 1.8 percent); restaurants & hotels (1.9 percent vs 1.0 percent) and education (2.3 percent vs 1.3 percent) while recreation & culture cost rebounded (0.3 percent vs -0.2 percent). On the other hand, prices slowed for transport (1.1 percent vs 1.3 percent) and furniture & household equipment (1.3 percent vs 1.4 percent) while clothing & footwear cost dropped (-1.2 percent vs a flat reading). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.2 percent, following a 0.1 percent rise in August.

It was the eighth consecutive month of deflation, although cost fell at a softer pace for housing & utilities (-6.5 percent from -6.7 percent in July) and recreation & culture (-0.2 percent vs -0.4 percent). In addition, prices advanced faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.0 percent vs 0.1 percent); furniture & household equipment (1.4 percent vs 0.8 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (1.8 percent vs 1.4 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for transport (1.3 percent vs 1.6 percent) and restaurants & hotels (1.0 percent vs 1.5 percent) while inflation was steady for education (at 1.3 percent) and health (at 1.0 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.1 percent, at the same pace as in July.

In addition, prices advanced faster for transport (1.6 percent vs 0.9 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.4 percent vs 1.0 percent) and health (1.0 percent vs 0.5 percent) while furniture & household equipment cost rebounded (0.8 percent vs -0.2 percent). On the other hand, prices rose less for food & beverages (0.1 percent vs 1.3 percent) and restaurants & hotels (1.5 percent vs 1.9 percent) while inflation was steady for education (at 1.3 percent) and tobacco (at 0.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.1 percent, following a 0.2 percent rise in June.

Saudi Arabia’s consumer prices decreased 1.4% year-on-year in June of 2019, less than a 1.5% fall in the prior month. It was the sixth consecutive month of deflation, though prices fell the least in the current sequence which began in January. Cost dropped at a softer pace for housing & utilities (-0.4% from -7.2%) and communication (-0.7% from -1.0%). In addition, prices rebounded for recreation & culture (0.2% from -1.1%) and advanced further for food & beverage (1.3% from 1.8%); transport (0.9% from 0.5%); miscellaneous goods & services (1.0% from a flat reading) and restaurants & hotels (1.9% from 1.5%). Meantime, inflation was steady for education (at 1.3%); health (at 0.5%) and tobacco (at 0.1%) while cost fell for furniture & household equipment (-0.2% from a flat reading) and clothing & footwear (-0.5% from 0.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2%, following a 0.1% gain in May.

Saudi Arabia's consumer prices dropped 1.5 percent year-on-year in May 2019, following a 1.9 percent decline in the previous month. It was the fifth consecutive month of deflation, though prices fell the least in the current sequence which began in January. Cost fell less for housing & utilities (-7.5 percent from -7.8 percent in April); communication (-1.0 percent from -1.2 percent). In addition, inflation accelerated for: food & beverages (1.8 percent from 1.0 percent); transport (0.5 percent from 0.3 percent), and restaurants & hotels (1.5 percent from 1.3 percent) while clothing & footwear prices rebounded (0.3 percent from -1.0 percent). Meantime, inflation was flat for furnishings & household equipment (from -0.3 percent).On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent, after a flat reading in the prior month.
