Namibia Inflation Rate Lowest since 2005
The inflation rate in Namibia fell to 2.5 percent in November 2019 from 3 percent in the previous month. It was the lowest inflation rate since August 2005, mainly due to a slowdown in prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.9 percent vs 4 percent in October); transport (0.1 percent vs 1.5 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.7 percent vs 3.9 percent). Cost also rose at a softer patch for furnishings (2.6 percent vs 3 percent) and health (2.8 percent vs 3.1 percent). Meantime, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (at 1.9 percent) and education (at 12 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent, after increasing 0.2 percent in the previous month.

The annual inflation rate in Namibia fell to 3 percent in October 2019 from 3.3 percent in the previous month. It was the lowest inflation rate since May 2015, as prices slowed mostly for food & non-alcoholic beverages (4 percent vs 4.4 percent in September); housing & utilities (1.9 percent vs 2 percent) and transport (1.5 percent vs 2.5 percent). Inflation also softened for furnishings (3 percent vs 3.1 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.7 percent vs 2.7 percent); clothing & footwear (0.9 percent vs 1.4 percent); communications (0.8 percent vs 2.5 percent) and health (3.1 percent vs 3.2 percent). Meanwhile, cost rose faster for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.9 percent vs 3.3 percent) and recreation & culture (4.6 percent vs 4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2 percent, after increasing 0.3 percent in the previous month.

Namibia's annual inflation rate declined to 3.3 percent in September 2019, its lowest level since November 2015, from 3.7 percent in the previous month, as prices slowed mostly for transport (2.5 percent vs 6.1 percent in August); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.3 percent vs 3.9 percent) and restaurants & hotels (2.8 percent vs 3.4 percent). In contrast, cost continued to advance for food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.4 percent vs 4.1 percent); housing & utilities (2.0 percent vs 1.9 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (2.7 percent vs 2.3 percent); furnishings (3.1 percent vs 3.0 percent); communications (2.5 percent vs 1.7 percent) and recreation & culture (4 percent vs 3.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, after rising 0.1 percent in the previous month.

Namibia Inflation Rate Rises to 3.7% in August
Namibia's consumer price inflation edged up to 3.7 percent year-on-year in August 2019 from 3.6 percent in the previous month, with upward pressure coming from food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.1 percent vs 3.4 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.9 percent vs 3.5 percent); and furnishing & household equipment (3 percent vs 1.8 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was unchanged for miscellaneous goods & services (at 2.3 percent), and slowed for housing & utilities (1.9 percent vs 2.2 percent) and transport (6.1 percent vs 6.9 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.1 percent, after a 0.2 percent gain in July.

The annual inflation rate in Namibia fell further to 3.6 percent in July 2019 from 3.9 percent in the previous month, reaching its lowest level since April last year. Prices slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.4 percent vs 3.9 percent in June); transport (6.9 percent vs 7.0 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.5 percent vs 5.5 percent); hotels, cafes & restaurants (3.9 percent vs 5.4 percent) and recreation & culture (3.2 percent vs 4.0 percent). Meanwhile, cost was higher for housing & utilities (2.2 percent vs 2.0 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2 percent, up from a 0.1 percent increase in the preceding month.

The annual inflation rate in Namibia fell to 3.9 percent in June 2019 from 4.1 percent in the previous month, hitting its lowest level since May last year. Prices slowed mostly for food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.9 percent vs 4.4 percent); transport (7.0 percent vs 7.6 percent); miscellaneous good & services (1.8 percent vs 2.2 percent) and for recreation & culture (4.0 percent vs 4.5 percent). On the other hand, cost advanced faster for housing & utilities (2.0 percent vs 1.9 percent); furniture & household equipment (1.1 percent vs 1.0 percent) and hotels, cafes & restaurants (5.4 percent vs 4.7 percent) while inflation was steady for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (at 5.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.1 percent, rebounding from a 0.1 percent drop in the previous month.
